Allow me share a part of my life with you.
I still remember the heart stopping story I wrote in 3rd grade creative writing class. It was a Halloween thriller filled with unexpected twists and turns. I knew I would get an A on this paper. After waiting a week for grading, the day had come to get our papers back. My name was called. I proudly stood from behind my desk and quickly walked to the front of the class smiling from ear to ear. I could not wait to see an A on what had to be the best story she had ever seen. Then it happened. I reached for my paper and saw the grade that stopped me from pursuing my dreams until recently. I got a D on my story. The red comments scribbled on my paper said that my story was unbelievable and unrealistic. Even though I dreamed of writing some day, at that age, all I heard was you are not good enough. My young spirit was crushed.
I shared that story with you for this reason:
There are many situations from our past that limit us from living our dreams in the present.
What is the fear that is holding you back from writing? Are you able to identify it?
How do you overcome the fear of writing?
Pursue the passion in your purpose.
With the desire of writing, you have something inside of you that wants to add value to the life of others.
For example, I feared writing about my experience with emotional abuse. My mind went back to the fear that I would be rejected like my story was in 3rd grade. What I realized was that my story will not be accepted by everyone, but it will touch the right someone. I placed a detailed picture of the person in my mind who needed my information and how they will feel a sense of hope after reading what I had to share.
Writing for a specific purpose became my focus instead of fear.
I encourage you to try this method for yourself. Who are you wanting to reach with your message? Think and feel the consequences that person will face if they are without your information.
You have the power within you to impact the life of someone today. Be bold in your purpose and fear will longer hold you back.
