How to Write a Book Review

By: Nancy Eaton

INTRODUCTION

One of the most important things in writing a good book review is the very first sentence.  Open with a statement that will really grab the reader's attention.  It could even be a question.  Be sure to write something that will make the reader of the review want to read this book.

SYNOPSIS

Give a brief synopsis of the book.  Tell the readers what you enjoyed about the book and if you didn't like something mention that too.  Don't be afraid to say anything negative.  Most books have good points and a couple of bad points.  Why did you like the characters?  Just don't state that you enjoyed the book because the characters were excellent.  Tell the reader why the characters were excellent, etc!

SUMMARY

Sum up your review in a few sentences with your recommendation.  Once again, state why or why not you would recommend this book and be sure to give some detail.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

1.  Don't ever copy anyone's review.  Be sure it is in   your own words.  You should never use copyright material.

2.  Don't be too wordy.  People tend to get bored by a long review.  Say what you have to say but don't drag it on and on.
